Julien is mainly teaching in the departement of “Material Science and Engineering” at IUT of Nîmes.
There he teaches courses on “basic chemistry”, “organic and polymer chemistry” “physico-chemical properties of polymers” and “bio-sourced materials”. He is also in charge of student projects with industrial partners.

Thème de Recherche

My research topics are dealing with ring-opening polymerization (ROP) using organic catalysts. They can be divided in three main categories as follow:

  • Organocatalyzed ring-opening polymerization of uncommon cyclic esters/ Polymérisation par ouverture de cycles d’esters cycliques originaux
  • Here we aim at synthesizing new polymers by organocatalyzed ring-opening polymerization or to provide a better control of the polymerization of already know monomers by using organic catalysts. The final goal is to provide polymers or (block) copolymers with specific properties. For example, we investigate the synthesis of thermoplastic elastomers that have elastomeric properties on a large range of temperature.

  • Macrocyclic polymers by organocatalysis / Polymères macrocycliques par organocatalyse
  • The goal is to produce polymers based on macrocylic architectures (macrocycles, brushed-macrocycles…), and to study their self-assembly in water with the aim at forming new objects (polymer tubules).

  • Photolatent Ring-Opening Polymerization/ Polymérisation par ouverture de cycles photolatente
  • This research topic aims at develloping photolatent ring-opening polymerization with organic catalysts and at implementing it in various processes. Among the processes employed, photoROP of cyclic monomers in bulk and in the form of films should provide biodegradable and hydrophobic coatings. It will be the first step toward the use of photoROP for stereolithography, an additive manufacturing technology attracting an increasing interest. Because it represent a scientific and technological challenge, photoROP in miniemulsion will be also studies and should lead to the production of biodegradable/biosourced latexes.
