The collaboration between the Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier and the Hérault-based start-up Petshka has recently been highlighted in an article published by Midi Libre.
This recognition illustrates the tangible impact of the chemical research developed at ICGM in supporting the transition towards a more sustainable and circular textile industry.
Thanks to the joint work carried out by the teams at ICGM and Petshka, it is now possible to transform polyester-containing textile waste into new raw materials for industrial applications. This breakthrough relies on the scientific excellence of ICGM researchers, in particular the strong involvement of Sylvain Caillol, Vincent Ladmiral and Vincent Lapinte, who contribute to the development of innovative chemical recycling processes.
The article also retraces the origins of this partnership, which emerged from the meeting between Philippe Beille, founder of Petshka, and ICGM. This collaboration exemplifies the key role of public research in transferring knowledge to industry and in structuring new circular value chains.
This momentum has also been recognised at the regional level: Petshka was awarded the Grand Prize of the 2025 “Les Inn’Ovations” competition, presented by Agence AD’OCC during the Innovation Summit, highlighting the ecological and innovative impact of this collaboration.
A strong illustration of ICGM’s commitment to working alongside socio-economic stakeholders to make chemistry a major driver of the circular economy.
