Lilian Geniller of the Chemistry and Molecular Materials Department (D1) at the Institut Charles Gerhardt Montpellier (ICGM) has just been awarded the Prix Dina Surdin 2025 by the Organic Chemistry Division of the Société Chimique de France.

This prestigious award recognizes the excellence of her research work in the field of organic chemistry, and in particular her advances in the development of photochemical transformations by halogen atom transfer. Innovative research carried out at the ICGM, at the crossroads of organic synthesis, photochemistry and catalysis.

A promising young talent

An alumnus of the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier, Lilian Geniller did his final year project in Sanofi’s research department in Chilly-Mazarin. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry, obtained in 2021 at the University of Montpellier.

In the same year, thanks to ministerial funding, he began a PhD thesis at ICGM under the supervision of Drs Florian Jaroschik and Alexis Prieto. His research focuses on the development of new synthesis methodologies, in particular innovative photochemical transformations by halogen atom transfer or energy transfer.

In 2023, his work will also be supported by JSPS funding, enabling him to spend two months in Japan, in the laboratory of Prof. H. Ohmiya, a specialist in catalysis and the development of new photochemical transformations.

This prize is a fine recognition of his commitment and the scientific quality of his research.
